Feed The 5000 started in 1992 providing 292 Thanksgiving meals to those in need of food or fellowship. Feed The 5000 currently averages approximately 1700 meals each Thanksgiving and is a ministry completely dependent on volunteers. Prior to the event volunteers can help support the canvassing of housing apartments to identify requests for meals. On Thanksgiving volunteers start arriving at the facility (106 Jordan Street) at 6:30 and throughout the morning: 6:30 set up of tables, cookers and serving lines, 7:30 packaging of rolls and cookies, 8:30 opening cans for cooking, 8:30 unloading turkeys start deboning, 9:00 begin packaging of the meals, 10:00 delivery of meals, 12:30 help in clean up. Volunteers may participate for one hour or all morning. This is the featured event for Our Daily Bread and the one event that we encourage participation of families with their children. Contacts for participation can be through Jerry Holtzclaw at 864-247-2535 or Richard Ledford at 864-882-2518.
